Welcome to the Soil Ecology Laboratory of the Faculty of Forestry Sciences and Nature Conservation at University of Chile. We are in the continuous goal of enhancing our knowledge of soil properties and soil processes and their connection with living organisms.
We believe that soils are a fundamental part of terrestrial ecosystems. If we do not understand how soils work in terms of their properties and processes, and how resilient (or sensible) soils can be, we are failing to perceive the real functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. We need therefore, an in-deep comprehension of soil properties and soil processes and how humans can affect them.
Our main goal is to show to the Society the importance of soils and how they can be conserved or even restored. To do this, we have tried to link physical, chemical, biological, and morphological soil properties with human disturbances and plants at both community and plant individual levels.
